This fabrication method was taught to us as a technique used by industrial design sculptors, typically used in the automobile industry, where 1:1 model designs could be instantly prototyped by hand. Using Blender to model the base geometry, and Pepakura to translate the STL into a laser cuttable DFX, this paper base was put together and filled with expanding foam which acted as a solid foundation to begin applying layers of modeling clay over.
